What Kind of Sedation is Right for My Child?
You want your child to be comfortable. So do we! Choosing the right type of sedation not only keeps your child happy during her visit, it also allows our dentists to work more efficiently. Denali Pediatric Dentistry offers all of our sedation services in our office, so there’s no need to visit the hospital or a surgical center for extensive dental needs.
The types of sedation we offer include:
Nitrous Oxide – The best choice for most children, “laughing gas” makes you feel comfortable and tingly down to the toes. It has a quick onset and is quickly reversed as soon as the procedure is finished. Nitrous is used for basic dental care when local anesthetic is needed.
Liquid Sedation – Also called oral sedation, liquid sedation uses a prescription medication to help children feel sleepy for 3-4 hours after it is taken. This allows us to complete most dental needs while they are only semi-aware of what is going on around them.
IV Sedation – IV sedation is the deepest level of sedation available in a dental setting. Absolute sedation is maintained, allowing us to perform the necessary care on children with extensive behavioral or physical needs that would otherwise prevent them from getting the care that they need.
If you have more questions about the types of sedation offered, we’ll be happy to answer them for you. Contact us.
